Election blues!

I dont recall a time when there were so many elections in such a short space of time with such odd results…

Wouldn’t it be nice if government financial figures had to be independently audited and published when an election was called and all the parties have to work to those audited figures and have manifesto promise costings  independently verified so that EVERYONE who votes could understand what the implications of their voting choice would be and no party could just pull figures out of the air to win votes.

So tired of all political parties dressing up policies with figures hidden behind a smokescreen disputed facts. That isn’t democracy in action. It is a system that takes advantage of an ill informed electorate, who have little opportunity to test the promises made to them by all the political parties. in 2017 that is a disgrace!

Ding Dong the boss is gone!

It’s funny how often we become so fixated on our own survival that we forget that we fit into a much bigger picture. It seems that the behaviour of my boss was not something just noticed/felt by those who had the misfortune to report to him. It is both reassuring and encouraging to realise that senior management in my company were attuned to what was going on and have set my (ex) boss free to wreck his particular brand of management on pastures new.

I had planned a whole range of posts around inventive and amusing ways to rid myself of this man – death by chocolate cake (he was very greedy), buying him a one way ticket to deepest darkest Peru (I couldn’t do that to Peru) etc.  Ah well never mind. I am sure something interesting will come around for me to comment on. Just watch this space.

Questions that perplex!

Is it ever wise to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth in your self appraisal?

What if your line manager is the sort who would skin his/her own grandparent if he/she thought it would make them look good?

Many people find themselves in this situation and in today’s economy simply don’t have the option of telling said “boss” what they really think of them, simply because new jobs just aren’t that easy to come by!

Now I am a reasonably well educated, articulate person, but I am stuck working for a narcasistic megalomaniac who has at times had me doubting my own abilities and regularly knocks my confidence. When I have tried to stand up for myself the situation has deteriorated further. But, like most people, I like to eat and pay my bills!

So what’s the answer? Well for me it is to be honest with myself that I have to tolerate this person only for economic reasons. I don’t have to like them, respect them or allow them to intimidate me. They are merely a necessary evil……. for now.

Oh yes, and I keep  diary – you never know when you are going to need contemporaneous back up – cheers me up every time I think about it!
